Harris County New Year's 2012 drunk driving charge statistics

Out of professional curiosity I did a quick check this morning of the Harris County District Clerk's web site to see how many people were charged with drunk driving offenses over the 2012 New Year's night in Houston and Harris County. A total of 43 people were charged, with the breakdown of specific offenses as follows:

23 driving while intoxicated first offenders, BAC (blood alcohol content) of .08
driving while intoxicated second offenders, BAC (blood alcohol content) of .08
driving while intoxicated third offenders, BAC (blood alcohol content) of .08
driving while intoxicated offenders, BAC (blood alcohol content) of > .15
1 intoxication manslaughter with a motor vehicle (Jose Luis Sanchez, whose bail is set at $80,000)

There were also three reckless driving charges and two people charged with racing on the highway, though there's no indication of alcohol involvement in those offenses. I can't tell how many of the 43 drunk driving charges involved a car accident other than the intoxication manslaughter. Frustratingly it looks like a lot of drunk drivers just don't learn, because 12 out of 43 (which is 28%) of those charged are repeat offenders, collecting their second or third DWI charge last night.
