Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday Jan 2nd there was a multiple vehicle accident on northbound Highway 6 near Westheimer Road in west Houston: one person was killed and others involved were injured. Life flight was called for at least one person. Channel 2's article does not state how many people were injured and the identity of the person who died has not yet been released. One comment to the Channel 2 article states that Westheimer is among the most dangerous intersections in Texas, according to research by State Farm Insurance. At least one vehicle, a white-colored SUV, rolled over in the accident and came to rest on its roof.
Update: it appears this accident was the result of intoxicated driving. Channel 11 is reporting that 32-year old Mytreka Neshell Ealem has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. Apparently it was Ealem's Ford Expedition (see the red colored vehicle in the photo immediately below) that crossed over the center line of Highway 6, striking a Ford Escape (the black vehicle) and a Hyundai Santa Fe (the overturned white vehicle). The Santa Fe was struck by two other vehicles and the back seat passengers were ejected. A 42-year old man died. Ealem was charged bu investigators after tests showed she was under the influence of illegal narcotics. Mytreka Ealem's Myspace page indicates she is from Louisiana but lives in Houston, and includes a picture of her her standing with several young children next to what appears to be the red Ford Expedition involved in yesterday's deadly crash (see below). Ms. Ealem was charged with theft in Harris County in May 2010 (those charges were dismissed) and is currently in Harris County Jail. Her bond has been set at $30,000.
